The Trouble with Toddler Tamers

"Please don't cry, Takatomon..." The Digimon pleaded with him, to no avail.
The little human continued to whimper and sniffle despite Guilmon's fretting.
He had done everything he could think to do! When Takato had fallen and hurt his knee, he had licked it clean and very carefully applied the bandage with his clumsy claws, but Takato had just started to sob in earnest when Guilmon had finished. Guilmon had pulled him into his lap and started to gingerly pet him in the hopes that it would calm him down, but his tears continued to roll down his face unabated and Guilmon flailed helplessly. What could he do? What was left? He irrationally wanted to blast the concrete that had scraped Takato, but that would only frighten his little Tamer. When Takato began to calm down, Guilmon felt a surge of hope and his ears rose up.
"It hurts..." Takato whimpered to him, and Guilmon's ears plummeted. He was the worst Digimon partner ever. The absolute worst. He felt like crying himself, but he had to stay strong. At a loss, he tried to hug Takato close to himself and cuddle the pain out of him, but Takato just turned to him and continued to sob. Guilmon mournfully kissed the top of his head, and then suddenly had a flash of inspiration. He tapped Takato's back to get his attention, and then gently patted his knee.
"Pain, pain, go away." He said softly, and then looked at Takato. His Tamer stared at him, confused. Guilmon tried again, patting Takato's knee more firmly.
"Pain, pain, go away." He repeated. This time, Takato took full notice, and stopped crying. He actually began giggling, and in that moment Guilmon was the best Digimon partner ever.

(I cannot explain why Takato is a toddler in this one, except that I came up with the idea and wanted to commission it, so just roll with it)
